Young people gain trade skills through volunteering

Social enterprise Volunteer It Yourself (VIY) combines DIY and volunteering by challenging young people to help repair and refurbish community places and spaces, whilst learning vocational trade skills on the job.

A VIY project taking place at St Edmund’s Hall in Southend, SS2 4AS, combining carpentry, and painting and decorating, as an opportunity for young people to build skills, confidence, and earn a City & Guilds qualification.

The dates of the project are Tuesday 10^th to Friday 20^th February, though only 3 days’ attendance is required. No experience is needed.

Southend YMCA is running a free 6-week programme designed to help 18 to 24-year-olds build confidence, develop new skills, and make meaningful connections.
