New Westgate parking charges - don't get fined | New hospital services coming to Eastgate
Good morning, Basildon
Hope you’re having a happy Monday!
This week, we’re loving this nostalgic photo (AI-remastered, we think!) of Basildon market from the 1970s

Weather in Basildon this week

According to the Met Office weather forecast,
What’s New?
Smart Investors Don’t Guess. They Read The Daily Upside.
Markets are moving faster than ever — but so is the noise. Between clickbait headlines, empty hot takes, and AI-fueled hype cycles, it’s harder than ever to separate what matters from what doesn’t.
That’s where The Daily Upside comes in. Written by former bankers and veteran journalists, it brings sharp, actionable insights on markets, business, and the economy — the stories that actually move money and shape decisions.
That’s why over 1 million readers, including CFOs, portfolio managers, and executives from Wall Street to Main Street, rely on The Daily Upside to cut through the noise.
No fluff. No filler. Just clarity that helps you stay ahead.
Westgate Multi-storey car park changes
Heads up! Westgate Multi-Storey Car Park is no longer managed by Reef parking. Parking is now PAY ON ENTRY (not on exit), so don’t get caught out and risk a fine.
It’s cashless and ticketless. Pay via the MiPermit app or by phone.
New Parking charges:
• 0–2 hours: £1.55
• 2–4 hours: £2.45
• All day (6am–10pm): £3.75
• Evening (6pm–10pm): £1.55
• Sundays & Bank Holidays: £0.75. Pay via Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Visa using the MiPermit app, AppClip, NFC tap, QR code, or online portal.
Poolpods coming to BSV, Wickford swim & fitness centre
Thanks to a £284,000 accessibility investment for the borough, the council plans to improve accessibility and support disabled people across the borough. Part of this plan includes installing PoolPods at:
• Wickford Swim & Fitness Centre
• Basildon Sporting Village teaching pool.
PoolPods provide safer, more dignified, and more independent access to swimming for disabled users, helping remove barriers and encourage physical activity. More updates coming soon.
New games area coming to Whitmore park
A new MUGA (Multi-Use Games Area) is coming to Whitmore Park, with planning consent now approved. It’s funded by Basildon Borough Council and the Football Foundation, replacing the old courts. Located near Flex Youth Club, The Jolly Friar, and Whitmore School. Designed to be a central hub for sport and activity in the Whitmore community. The project will give local children and young people a modern space to stay active and thrive.
Eastgate mini-hospital’s services released
An extensive list of services will be on offer at a new mini hospital at the Eastgate shopping centre has been revealed. The new health centre is set to open in the summer at the former Debenhams in Basildon’s Eastgate Shopping Centre. Apparently, the facility should offer: MRI services, CT services, Ultrasound services, GP services, Urgent Care services, Ophthalmology, Blood tests, Echocardiography and cardiac testing, Health screening, Orthopaedics, Physiotherapy, Health and wellbeing services, Dental and orthodontic services, General surgery, Urology, Breast services, ENT, Paediatrics Outpatient consultations across all specialties and Respiratory testing
